What initially appeared to be a minor mould issue in a Kirra townhouse quickly escalated once Biodec began investigating the affected area.
Upon removing the mounted wall cabinets, our team uncovered extensive mould growth spanning from floor to ceiling within the wall cavity. The true extent of contamination had been hidden behind the cabinetry, highlighting how easily mould can go unnoticed without thorough inspection.
Given the scale of the discovery, we expanded the scope of works and installed a larger containment system to fully isolate the affected area. All contaminated plasterboard was then carefully removed under controlled conditions to prevent cross-contamination.
Following demolition, we installed a dehumidifier and air filtration device, allowing the area to dry and airborne spores to be captured over several days. Once conditions were stabilised, the site underwent final cleaning and was assessed by an Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP).
After successfully passing clearance, the property was handed back to the builder for reinstatement.
This project is a strong reminder that what looks like a small issue on the surface can often conceal much larger problems behind the scenes.
