Following severe weather from Cyclone Alfred, a Nerang home experienced significant water intrusion. Initial restoration works were carried out by an unknown restoration company, including cleaning and drying, however the occupants continued to report ongoing health concerns.
An Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP) was engaged to investigate further and identified hidden mould contamination within the ceiling cavities—specifically above the dining, kitchen, and bedroom areas. The mould had developed behind the plasterboard and was not addressed during the initial restoration.
Biodec was then engaged to carry out targeted remediation works. To protect recently installed floorboards, we first laid down full flooring protection across all work areas.
Containment measures were implemented, and all affected plasterboard ceilings were carefully removed to expose the contaminated cavities.
Air filtration devices were installed throughout the process to maintain air quality and capture airborne spores. Once demolition was complete, a comprehensive HEPA clean was carried out across the entire home, ensuring all surfaces were free from residual contamination.
Temporary plastic sheeting was then installed to seal off exposed areas until reinstatement could be completed.
This project highlights the importance of thorough investigation following water damage—particularly when health concerns persist—as hidden mould can remain undetected without proper assessment.
